All our volunteers enrol into our Welsh Gymnastics Leadership Academy and follow a structured mentored pathway of development.  Along with their volunteer work each leader benefits from our professional development programme. The day they step into the gym they step into a professional learning environment and begin to work towards their future coaching qualifications supported by Sports Wales funding.  The Academy programme reflects the needs of the club and offers the volunteer practical and theoretical learning within an evolving environment. For the younger coaches their feedback is that they really feel they are learning ‘skills for life’ and from our parent volunteers, providing an environment where they can be confident and feel supported in the new skills that they are learning.  “All members of the Ruthin & Denbigh Gymnastic Club Team recognise their role to nurture that process”….Tamsin Jones (Head Coach).

The aim of the Academy is to encourage long term commitment to the sport of gymnastics, by developing a programme of Structured Mentored Professional Development, which creates pathways and opportunities for volunteers to develop their coaching within a WG affiliated club setting.

Llangollen Leadership Academy was the first pilot scheme launched  in Wales with Sports Wales funding Llangollen in 2011 and Beth Tweddle graduated our first 15 students spending a celebration day with us just 2 months before she took Bronze in the British Olympic Games 2012. The success of the Academy recognised beyond the world of gymnastics, by, for example Sport Wales, who have produced a community sport blog.

The leaders are invited to launch Denbighshires vision for sport and receive recognition at the Denbighshire Sport Awards Nov 2013 nominated as the “Team of the Year 2013”. July 2013 Leisure Matt Hilliker presents the Leaders 2nd year Graduation Awards and the clubs mentor award.

Ruthin and Denbigh gym club have the commitment of some of our original members who now form its strong senior team, many joining the Academy 3rd year intake of students in September 2014. Their achievements and dedication to their sport was recognised  as “Team of the Year Award 2014” at the Regional Welsh Gymnastics Awards held at Venue Cymru.
